Indoor air quality, commonly referred to, as IAQ is the new buzzword that refers to the quality of air in your home. All furnaces come with basic filters that remove some particles out of the air but they really aren’t that effective when maintaining the quality of air in your home. There are many accessories you can add to your furnace to make the air in your home the best it can be.

High Efficiency Media Air Filter

The first and easiest thing you can do is upgrade your filter. The filter that comes with all systems is a simple 1” standard filter. You can move up to a high efficiency filter that is 4” thick and has a better filtering media that will take out even more particulates than the standard filter.

Electronic Air cleaner

The next grade up is an electronic air cleaner. These work a little better but do require more maintenance in order to keep them working properly. These high efficiency units can remove up to 99.9% of particulates from your home.

Humidification

Adding a humidifier will help your heating system work better and make your home more comfortable in the winter which will allow you to set your thermostat to a lower temperature. Honeywell has just come out with a new humidifier called TruSteam which actually usessteam to maintain humidity in your home. It’s much more efficient that the traditional bypass humidifier.

UV Lights

UV light filtration systems help eliminate mold spores and certain live active bacteria as they pass over the lamp and prevent them from recirculating throughout your home. The shortwave ights are easy to add to your existing system and help eliminate up to 87% of the airbourne bacteria passing through your home comfort system.
